Theme
Theme is the central idea of a piece of writing. In House on Mango Street there are a bunch of themes, but the biggest theme must be family. "My Papa broke down and cried, as if he had just heard the news himself." This quote can easily show that the family value in this house holed is strong. this can also be see in each description of each family member. "My Mama's hair smells like bread." This quote tells me that her mother loves to cook for her family and that cooking really brings the family closer together.

Stories
An ice cold breeze blew this morning as a pair of small hands grasped the cold sharp steel, a pair of eyes looked out into the confusing world which was just beyond his reach. "Why am I here?" said the small boy under his breath. "What is the point of being here in this prison, forced to memorize trivial things that, by this time next year, we shall have forgotten all about?" His hands gripped the steel fence as hard as he could until his palms began to bleed. "My prison may be big and I may leave it every day, but I still return day after day, week after week, and year after gruelling year." The boy stared at the near by freeway that sat no more that three hundred feet away from where he stood. Why was he here and for what purpose?
A hand grabbed the little boys sleeve, dragging him closer and closer to the ginormous tower of steel. "But I don't want to!" wailed the little one as he kicked and squirmed to get away from his approaching doom. "Don't be such a cowered, its awesome you'll see." The boy stayed quiet. He stared at people who willingly bared themselves into this death trap, slowly made their way to the top of the tower, and suddenly were dropped and sent hurdling to the concrete below. The boy hated heights but hated falling even more. He was shoved into a seat, strapped in, and was sent on his way to the top of the steel monstrosity. The tower creaked as he sat at the top, his eyes shut tight. All of a sudden he was dropped. He screamed as he was sent hurdling to the ground below. As he opened his eyes the ride was over."Again, again!" he shouted. He wanted the adrenaline to continue.
A Lonely child sits on a swing trying desperately to not shed a tear, not to show an ounce of the sobbing boy within him."Did I do something wrong? Did I say something offencive? Why won't they come near me?" Over and over the boy contemplated each scenario. Without even realizing it the boy had been shunned away, he had become an outcast.

Using Our Herbs!!
1/3 cup chopped fresh basil
1 1/2 teaspoons seasoning salt
3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup white wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice.
So next we go ahead and finely chop out basil.
Then measure a table spoon of seasoning salt and add it to the basil.
Next measure 3/4 of a tea spoon and add that to the mix.
Then measure 3/4 cup of vegetable oil or olive oil which ever you prefer.
Next add 3/4 White wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar again whatever you prefer.
Now here the recipe says to add 1 table spoon to the mix but i find a hole lemon tastes much better.
Lastly after all everything is mixed together let the concoction sit over night so the basil has time to dupers throughout the mixture.
Now this recipe is online but The alterations that I made I got from a family recipe that I got from my mother.
Now why did I do this?
Well first of all we are growing an herb garden in our classroom as a way to live sustainable. So since we grew them, why not eat them I mean that's why they are there, to eat right. Anyway as soon as i made this basil vinaigrette i had to try it. Even though I didn't let it set it still tasted epic. It had a burst of lemon followed by a kick from the basil and vinegar working together. It was soooooooooooo gooooooooooooooood ^^. now if I was to do this again I wouldn't change a thing for it's a family tradition plus if something is good why change it? What I really want to do is find more family recipes and see if i can make my own twist on it.

L.U.L.S. Project
What struck you about the data?
What struck me was the number of people who actually donate to a thrift store. For some reason I thought it would be a much lower percentile that it came out to be.
Were you surprised by any of the results? How so?
Again like I've just stated. The number of people who donate. I didn't know it would be that high.
What were your expectations? Were these met or not?
My expectations were for people to answer truthfully, and yes through personal interviews my expectations were met.
Based on your findings, what type of ad campaign will you run? Will you being to educate people? Encourage or coerce people? Embarrass people? What is your angle?
I was hoping to educate people on recycling clothes. Buying clothes that are department store quality but are a lot cheeper and used. I was also thinking about showing what happens when you just through out your clothes, but mainly the educating part.

Erratic Retaliation
On page 82 Ishmael talks about ‘anthropomorphism.’ Look up the definition of this term and post it in your blog, then describe what he is applying it to in the chapter.
How does Ishmael define ‘Erratic Retaliation’? How does it work in the case of the Cawks?
Why don’t the Cawks just annihilate each other instead of just doing the occasional attacks?

What do you think the Dervaes’ family Needs vs. Wants sheet would look like? Why? Well there Wants would probably would be low for they seem to be extremely happy with what they got. Now their need also small for they grow most of what the eat so the food expense is ruled out.
How does the Dervaes family fit into what we are studying in My Ishmael?
Overall, what are your thoughts on the way this family lives and works?

Ishmael
Our culture thinks in that we are a flawed race and that we are doomed to a life of suffering and misery, also we're the only species that lock our food under lock and key. While most would accept this as true, I think otherwise. Though I do think that we are in a way flawed, I do not believe that we are doomed to suffer in this world. We are an intelligent race so we should be able to fix the problems that we planted upon this planet.
2. Ishmael disagrees with Mother Culture’s voice that says that humans are inherently flawed. After reading through page 66 of My Ishmael do agree or disagree with him? Why?
Like I said before I do believe that we are indeed flawed in some way for if we weren’t flawed we wouldn’t of put the planet in the predicament that it is in now. If humans weren’t flawed we’d would already be using the technical advances in our position to better the planet instead of running the planet dry day in and day out.
3. Ishmael uses a parable of Tunes and Dancers to explain his idea of Takers and Leavers. Who are these Takers and Leavers and how do they relate to American culture?
I believe that the takers refer to the people who take and take and never give back. They take and take until there is nothing left for them to take. The leavers refer to the people who take only what the need to live comfortably. These people let the planet grow as intended and only take what they require to survive. In American culture I think the takers are the companies and consumers that take and take from the planet and think nothing of it. The leavers, I think, refer to those who know how to budget their money, take only the essentials, and aren’t shopaholics like most of the American society is.

Goals for this semester!! Charlotte & Mele
In Mele's class I believe that I have progressed my knowledge in trigonometry and came away with a better understanding of them. When i came to this school in August i had an idea of what trigonometry was but it wasn't really clear to me. Mele fixed that right up.
What skills do you think are the most important for succeeding in Humanities and Mysics? Why? For Humanities it would have to be reading comprehension for there are a lot of words in Humanities that you either don't know or that the meaning of the word is vague. If your good at reading comprehension you could look back at the sentence ant figure out what that word is by context clues.
In Mysics paying attention is the key that and asking questions, for if you miss anything you could be lost the hole class. With these two skills working together Mysics can be a fun and exciting class
One thing I would like to improve on this semester would be my attentiveness. I tend to let my mind wonder from time to time, but in the end I pay for it. I'd get more done in less amount of time if I didn't let my mind wonder.I am going to do this by trying my best to stay focused and on task.
What are you most curious about? If you could study any topic, what would you study and why?
I am curious about graphic design and game design particularly. I what to design characters for video games one day and this would really help to accomplish that goal.
