Ecological Intelligence

First of all what is Ecological Intelligence? Well Ecological Intelligence is compiling the environmental consequences of our local choices and delivering that information to consumers in a user-friendly way. By doing this we would be able to calculate the consequences that led to creating what we were about to buy and make an educated decision on weather or not it is really worth buying. This ties in with our concept of living sustainably within our society. Now as for me I am not that Ecological Intelligent but i have enough to know what certain products need to be created and frankly I still don't get why things like poisonous chemicals are put into things that little kids handle every day, I just doesn't make any sense.

L.U.L.S. Project

So in class we compiled research on a certain subject. For this blog I'm going to answer some questions that were given to us.

What struck you about the data?
What struck me was the number of people who actually donate to a thrift store. For some reason I thought it would be a much lower percentile that it came out to be.

Were you surprised by any of the results? How so?
Again like I've just stated. The number of people who donate. I didn't know it would be that high.

What were your expectations? Were these met or not?
My expectations were for people to answer truthfully, and yes through personal interviews my expectations were met.

Based on your findings, what type of ad campaign will you run? Will you being to educate people? Encourage or coerce people? Embarrass people? What is your angle?
I was hoping to educate people on recycling clothes. Buying clothes that are department store quality but are a lot cheeper and used. I was also thinking about showing what happens when you just through out your clothes, but mainly the educating part.

Erratic Retaliation

This is a bit over due ^^' but here it is

On page 82 Ishmael talks about ‘anthropomorphism.’ Look up the definition of this term and post it in your blog, then describe what he is applying it to in the chapter.

Anthropomorphism: n. Attribution of human motivation, characteristics, or behavior to inanimate objects, animals, or natural phenomena. I think Ishmael is trying to say humans over think things. An example would be territory for an animal. We think that an animal wants the actual land and will defend that land, but what the animal is really after and will defend are the items/resources inside the land.

How does Ishmael define ‘Erratic Retaliation’? How does it work in the case of the Cawks?

Ishmael defines 'Erratic Retaliation as a sort of peacekeeping strategy. As the Cawks followed Erratic Retaliation everything seemed to work out fine they were hostel when need be and peaceful when need be. Seems a pretty good way to keep peace I think.

Why is Erratic Retaliation a peacekeeping method?

It relates the the old saying an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. In other words if someone attacks you attack them back, if someone is kind/peaceful towards you return the favor.

Why don’t the Cawks just annihilate each other instead of just doing the occasional attacks?

Simple, they had no reason too.

Urban Homestead

What strikes you about their movie?

What strikes me is how fast they were able to turn their whole house into a farm. To this great dedication is required and great respect for the planet.

What do you think the Dervaes’ family Needs vs. Wants sheet would look like? Why? Well there Wants would probably would be low for they seem to be extremely happy with what they got. Now their need also small for they grow most of what the eat so the food expense is ruled out.

How does the Dervaes family fit into what we are studying in My Ishmael?

Sustainability. They defiantly live sustainably.

Overall, what are your thoughts on the way this family lives and works?

They seem happy and content with how they are saving the earth. For them this way works and they like what the do. For me it would also work if there were a source of meat in the diet.
